How To Get The Most Out Of Your MacBook Pro

The Big Problem With Mac’s

If you are into technology then you know that 95% of computer users have PC’s. Microsoft pretty much dominates the market. And that is not a bad thing. But the problem is most people out there in the world today don’t understand what makes a Mac a Mac.

This is a growing epidemic.

I cannot tell you how many people I come across who say they hate using a Mac. And then I simply ask them “Have you ever used one before?” They usually say no.

How can you say you think something is no good when you haven’t even tried it out for yourself?

In reality, a Mac is by far the easiest computer to use. It’s labeled as grandparent friendly. Now I don’t know about you but I could never picture a grandparent learning how to use a PC, they would just run into way to many problems. But on a Mac however, it would be a breeze because Apple Computers designs their products to be extremely user friendly. In fact, that is what they spend the most time developing, the user interface.

I am actually writing this article right now on my first MacBook Pro that I have ever owned. And it is very interesting how I came upon this one. You see, before this computer I had one of those Dell Widescreens and it was great. But my business partner had a nice brand new 17″ MacBook Pro and I was super jealous.

So one day after we had just got done doing a video shoot for a client, I was loading up all the gear into my car and had set my laptop down against the back wheel of my car. Finished loading everything else up and then proceeded to back out. Next thing I know I run over a huge bump, which felt like I had just ran over a child or something. I was tripping out. So I get out of my car in a hurry only to find that I had done none other than run straight over my Dell. That thing was crushed almost in half. Absolutely no chance of survival.

Ironically, about a week before this happened my bank had issued me a new credit card for Neer Design, my web design business with something like a $2000 dollar limit. So I don’t know if this was fate but you better believe a week later I had a brand new MacBook Pro in my hands, and as soon as I pressed that crisp power on button I vowed never to use a PC ever again. The Mac was just was to clean. I mean it looks absolutely stunning. It is probably the fastest computer I have had yet. And if you really love windows all that much you can run XP or Vista on it. And for that reason alone, no one should ever get a PC again. Because why get a PC when you can get a Mac and have the best of both worlds. Mac made this possible because they have recently switched from their Power PC chips to Intel chips which allows them to run the same architecture as a PC.

Now that I have my Mac, I am able to so many things with such ease that I was not able to do with a PC before. Or at least without experiencing plenty of problems along the way. One of the most lucrative features about the Mac is that they cannot receive viruses. Well I shouldn’t say can’t, you can sure as hell get one if you are running Windows on your Mac. But than that, viruses do exist for the Mac, but they are so rare to come by, that it is not really a big issue.

I just want to make one more point. If you are involved in design in any way shape or form. You need a Mac. That is what they are built for. Mac’s are literally the industry standard for producing Hollywood movies, music, special effects and everything else like that. So if you haven’t tried one out yet, it’s about time you run over your PC so you have no choice but you get a Mac.

  • Mac is way better than PC at the moment since there are really few viruses for Mac now compared to all the swarming lot of these for PC. However this will change as soon as there are more Macs on market.

    Hey Matthew,

I would like to know more about your experience with Parallels. Can you e-mail me at sgibbons@parallels.com. I look forward to hearing from you.

    Cheers.
  • You know I am with you on this…I have owned Macs since their inception in 1984. I have also owned PCs. I have always had multiple and ongoing problems with my PCs and have never lost information on the dozens of Macs I have owned. I have five in my office right now. They are awesome!
  • Oh, no doubt about that Bruce, Macs are the way to go if you want to have a streamlined business.

I don't see any actual tips on getting the most from you Macbook. You just say it's simpler, but don't demonstrate why.
I have both a few PCs and a couple of Macs. I find benefit to having both. I can get low cost software for my PC. I can get intermediate video editing software for the PC, cannot do that with the far more expensive Macbook. It's the horrid iMovie or the difficult & expensive Final Cut. My Mac is USUALLY more stable, but not always, that stupid spinning beach ball shows up far too often.
  • The biggest tip I wanted my readers to take away form this post is the fact that if you have a Mac you can run a program like Parallels and use XP, Vista, or even Windows 7 simultaneously while still running your Mac current OS. For this reason alone, why would you buy anything else? You can have the best of both worlds this way all in one machine.

And if you're going to stress on price then just add the cost of two PCs together and it will be approximately the same as a Mac. There for you are really getting two computers for the price of one when you purchase something from Apple computers. ;)
