How To Live From Passion

View Comments

With the coming of the Internet Age more and more people are logging in online and searching for ways to make money. There have already been thousands that have cashed in on the Internet and hundreds more are creating success stories every single day.

But just like there are many successes there are also many failures. Often when someone new to Internet Marketing comes online trying to figure out how to make money online they tend to copy exactly what someone else is doing and duplicate it to the max. What happens when you do this is you become part of the sheep heard. You blend in. You look just like everyone else trying to “make it” online.

That is the opposite of what you need to be doing. You need to be the black sheep.

What Is The Black Sheep?

The Black Sheep stands out from the crowd. The Black Sheep is the first one to do something remarkable. The Black Sheep is the innovator, the catalyst, the leader, the entrepreneur, and the alpha.

Let me give you a literal example of a Black Sheep.

Meet David Walker, he’s a skateboarding fanatic (much life myself) and has been breakin’ bone for 20+ years now. It takes hard work and determination to keep at anything that long. That’s called dedication, and skateboarding is definitely one of the best teachers in the field.

While doing a massive frontside air might look super easy in a picture and might actually be really easy for David Walker to do in real life, now. But I can assure you that learning this trick was NOT easy. And in order to execute it this clean time and time again you have to eat shit over and over until you overcome your fear of falling. Then and only then will you be able to land it perfectly every time.

I can speak from personal experience when it comes to perseverance and skateboarding. I have been skateboarding for almost 9 years now and through my time on the board I have overcome many injuries, mainly ankles. I’ve injured my right ankle 13 times now, whether it has been a fracture, torn ligament or sprain I have had to let it heal and get back on my board every time.

Quitters Are Quitters

What if I quit along the way? What if I just stopped skateboarding all together because of an injury?

I look at it like this. Then what the heck did I even start for in the first place?

If you’re going to start something. FINISH IT! That’s it. All there is to it.

Because if you quit, everything you’ve worked for this far, all the progress you’ve made was ALL FOR NOTHING.

But you know what, I grew up skateboarding with all my closest friends on my block. And we were all REALLY good at it. Yet one by one I watched every last one of them drop off and quit. Some quit for injuries, some for girls, some for drugs, and some for work or other foolish reasons. Leaving me as the last one standing because I ALWAYS get back up, they didn’t.

That’s why David Walker and I connected so well because he’s not just a skateboarder but a Internet Marketing and MLM professional. (and here I am thinking I’m the only one)

Much of the determination and consistency skills I’ve learned from skateboarding David has too and has applied them directly into his business. From a young age David had the entrepreneurial spark ignited within him. At the young age of 23 he was running his own dry cleaning business, even though he didn’t know a darn thing about the business when he first started he learned quickly and was soon earning close to 6 figures in his early 20′s.

But due to a family tragedy David was forced to close up shop and move out to Florida with his wife where the sun is shinning and the skate scene of off the hook.

The Transformation

However, that was a pivotal point in his life. It caused him to do a TON of soul searching (and a little bit of skateboarding) to find out who he really was and what he truly wanted out of life. It was at the point that he realized it would be the home based business industry that would lead him out of the rat race once and for all. Despite what everyone said, he knew deep down that this was it.

The hardships didn’t stop there. David Walker’s upline liked to do this the old school way. Meaning harassing friends and family members, living by the three foot rule, and cold calling leads. David always knew these methods didn’t work but used them because that was all he knew.

That’s until he figured out how to leverage the power of the Internet to generate and endless amount of leads for his business by attracting people to him instead of trying to chase them down. Now he was using real business building principles that he could record and tweak down to a science.

Now David has acquired financial freedom and enjoys the luxuries of working from home having finally achieved the results he had been looking for all along.

Living From Your Place Of Passion

All of this was possible for David Walker because he chose to live from his place of passion in life. He chose to be The Black Sheep and stand out from the crowd even though many said he would never make it.

And you can chose to live from your passion just the same.

All you have to do is start asking yourself WHY. But don’t settle for some measly surface answer. Dig deep for an answer that brings you fulfillment and joy in life. Internet Marketing, MLM, and Networking may not be your true loves in life but they may be the financial vehicles that will give you the freedom to pursue your true dreams, whatever they may be.

Just know that when you live from your place of passion that anything is possible. Life is to short to have ANY regrets. Go out there and make it happen for yourself right now. You can change you life at any moment in time if you believe that you can. But either way you’re probably right…

  1. Matthew,

You did an awesome job describing who I am. I think the brotherhood of Skateboarders definitely shines through in your writing because there are things that you know about me because of our connection to what we love. I've been Skateboarding for so long, it's part of who I am. As I start to wind down from my aggressive agro edge and focus on massive success (I mean MASSIVE), I cannot help but reflect on all the virtues and attributes that I have acquired from the Skateboarding discipline.

I have fallen and experienced excruciating pain as well as experienced great victories. And with that mindset, we both understand the tenacity in which one must possess to be successful in free enterprise. Thanks for the story on me, my friend.

  3. True… that you have to be passionate about what you do. You can give up something you love for many reasons but to stay true to it, in midst crazy situations can possibly make you – a black sheep :-)

  4. Hi Matthew,
Dawn here. Just read your post here and wanted to say I really like how you can relate disciplines that mean success in business to skateboarding. You rightly emphasized you and David's ability to never quit. You can succeed and very often massively succeed if you just keep going.
Keep your skateboarding analogies coming. It really gives good insight into who you are.
