Apple certainly has a track record of doing so and I wouldn't bet against them this time either. There are rumors that the 4g iphone is going to be another big step forward such as live video sharing and possibly some other new things.

I think they are 10 steps ahead and only release a couple at a time. Anyhow…I think they love the competition…I certainly do because they always come out 3 steps ahead of the competition's latest releases.

We'll see if google can keep up!

You make a good point Bruce, it's basically going to be a competition between Google and Apple in the near future here. At this time I really can't see any other companies holding on or even competing with these to giants. Don't call me a physic but I have a feeling Apple is going to "do it again" and reinvent the wheel soon...

Hey Matthew…great post! I am a huge Apple fan as I have used their products since the beginning…definitely some ups and downs in there but they are industry leaders for sure in nearly everything they do…especially the iphone.

However…Google is just ambitious enough to try and trample Apple to the ground if they can. They may not be able to compete toe to toe with the iphone right at this moment…but they will almost certainly try to break new ground tapping into their dominance in the massive networking capabilities they already have in place.

Google certainly made a bold move to snub the phone companies bypassing their input…but I guess they figured if Apple could do it so could they. I know AT&T's exclusive agreement with Apple is supposedly coming to an end so this could be very interesting to watch Apple and Google compete with each other for dominance in the handheld computing/phone industry.

Very true, there is always someone going after the number one spot in any market and it's about time someone tried to tear down Apple from their throne. This way either Apple will be forced to improve their product (which is what will happen) or they will fail in the marketplace.

Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure, you will want to watch the buzz about the Nexus One closely...

Sounds like apple has some competition. This is not really a shock the iPhone is an amazing device and apple is a great company. However when there is a number one position there is always someone who wants that spot. The iPhone has held it for a while, but the new guys are starting to come about to test the waters. Awesome blog post, very informative.
