Local Business Is Starving For Social Media

View Comments

Local Business all around YOUR town are literally begging for you to walk in their door and show them how to promote their business and services online.

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!

You have no idea how much smarter, how much more intelligent, how much more you know marketing wise, and how tech savvy you are compared to what they know.

It’s almost ridiculous how simple Social Media services are to set up but for someone who doesn’t know squat about them, they are willing to pay.

Don’t believe me yet eh? Try talking about some in depth marketing know-how around the local mom & pop shop and watch their eyes glaze over like Easter eggs and turn to dollar signs. Even talking about basic Internet ad targeting strategies like PPC and targeted list building and they will probably think you a freakin’ genius.

I’m just going to drop a couple brain numbing time bombs that will get you thinking about the stupid easy money you could be making out there right in your neck of the woods.

• Sell Google’s ultra simple to use Local Listings service. Go to local restaurants and other family owned joints and offer to list their service on Google for a flat one time fee. All you need to do is take some pictures and add some creative text for their services or menu. And you’re done.

Suggested Retail Price: $150-$250 one time fee

• Setup & maintain basic social media packages. You would setup basic Twitter and YouTube accounts for various different local businesses and then update them from time to time when you get a request from the customer. All that you need to do here is create a few graphics for the Twitter and YouTube which could probably even be the same, and upload some basic starter videos/tweets. And you’re done.

Suggested Retail Price: $100-$200 monthly recurring fee

Now it just gets obnoxiously easy…

• Use Google Alert and Twitter search to promote a “Who’s Talking About You” online service and send out notifications every time your clients name gets mentioned or syndicated online. All you need to do here is set up an email account to capture all this information, filter it into “labels” if you using gmail and then create a professional email using a template, send it out daily, and you’re done.

Suggested Retail Price: $50-$100 per month

The point here is that you are WAY smarter than the average business owner out there today. Most people have no clue how to do this type of stuff, and it’s literally right there in front of you. You’re sitting on a friggin’ gold mine. Go start mining.

Simply by you being able to read and comprehend the concepts that I talked about in this post puts to 100x ahead of 97% of the world right now.

The time is now to strut you Social Media skills and make some handsome profits while you’re at it…

Speak soon,
Matthew Neer

  • Matthew,

My husband had introduced me to the concept of going "locally", which I didn't feel I had enough knowledge at that time. Your post has reminded me -- and now, I do have the experience to implement what you've suggested. Thanks for the tips on 'packages' and what steps to take - greatly appreciated!

    Best,
    Jennifer

Great info Matthew! Thank you for sharing. I was on the webinar AmandaMarieBlog was talking about too.

I think your blog post was perfect timing to get our brain juices flowing since this is an untapped market.

Friggin Genius, you just made the wheels in my mind turn so fast. .. I am gonna make 500 bucks tomorrow.
  • SICK AWESOME! I'm already doing this for a few prospects, and it works. Do it.
  • Hi Matt,

This idea is catching on! I've already been working with a local business getting paid to create a social media presence for them and have talked to quite a few prospective clients who are starving for someone to help them with SM and internet marketing. This is for real. My advise, get creative with your packages, offer al la carte services but focus primarily on creating continuity programs so you get paid month after month. Cheers!

  • You just hit the nail on the head Fredic, I just wanted to scrape the surface on this post to let people know what's possible out there and get them thinking for themselves. Great to hear that you are already having much success with these strategies. ROCK ON BRO!

Wow awesome idea Matthew! The online community has learnt these skills for ourselves and there are heaps and heaps of people in the offline community that can learn these simple techniques from us. There are many people who don't even know what Twitter is or don't want to know, but if it was explained to them in a simple and user-friendly way the opportunities could be endless!

Hmm excuse me I have some things to think about...hehe!

    Cheers,
    Lynn
  • You got it Lynn, the regular world is literally HUNGRY for this type of knowledge. We all live in different cities so there really isn't ANY competition right now. GO GET EM!
  • Hey Matthew!
I just listened to a webinar about this last night and I'm pumped to serve the small businesses of my area and make money instantly. Chris mentioned above that we are all so busy marketing to the 'internet marketing niche' and he's so right... we forget how much we know compared to non-internet marketers. I'm ready to take my knowledge and get my local ROLL on.. :)

Have you bought any trainings or programs that are particularly informative regarding this type of business?

    Thanks for sharing!
  • Right on, I'm guessing that webinar was put on by Ryan Diess? I almost hopped on that one. It's a hot topic right now. Good stuff to be working with. Thanks for the comment.
  • I have only *just* started hearing about approaching local businesses regarding social media. This is really going to be the next big niche for 2010.

Thanks so much for sharing this little gem with us! :-)

We were LITERALLY talking about doing this very thing in a meeting yesterday! I love it.
  • Matthew,

Great article. Just posted it on my Windmill Networking Facebook Fan Page. You have to be quite the hustler to generate six figures from doing it, but I agree 100% with your thought process and approach. Thanks for sharing!

    Matthew,

This is fabulous and so true! I have been doing this is So. Cal. and also long distance with an artist, an author and a business owner. You have reminded me that I need to get back on promoting this! Could be done as a seminar too!

Thanks for giving people some ways to generate some solid income!

  • I'm starting to do this in Buffalo and it works just like you said. We've all been learning so much but are often busy with trying to market to the "internet marketing niche" and not implementing it into a way that we can help less competitive niches.

Thanks for this dude, you just provided me with some other services that I could offer the businesses that I help grow! :)
  • Right on bro, glad I could help. These things are literally so easy to do for someone tech savvy like yourself and also something EVERY business needs to get on board with right away. You are filling a starving niche, it's a win win.
