One of the biggest problems people face as an entrepreneur is being in a negative poverty type mindset. I can’t even begin to tell you how many people I encounter on a daily basis that really have no clue how bad their mindset is for creating wealth.

I mean, it’s no secret that millionaires spend a lot of the time developing themselves as leaders. I can almost guarantee that every single self made millionaire has read multiple personal development books. Of course there will always be the exception to the rule but for the most part they all focus on developing themselves as leaders.

You see, because people only join you for two reasons in business. Either because you are a leader and they can clearly see that, that makes others want to be around you, want to learn from you, learn what you do, how you do it, why you do it and so on. People, for the most part, understand that if they want to do something in the fastest manner possible that you should learn from somebody who’s already done what you want to do.

And what better a person to learn from than a millionaire in your niche?

Honestly, this is what I spend a lot of my time on everyday. I usually dedicate at least one hour per day at the very minimum to personal development because I know how important it is to my overall development as a true leader in my multiple niche markets and really just as an entrepreneur as a whole.

But even one hour a day is to little, I believe that you should be spending at least two to three hours per day reading self help books, studying courses by Tony Robbins, Eben Pagen, Jim Rohn, and all the great motivational speakers of our time.

These guys have a ton of audio tapes that you can purchase at your local bookstore or even download online. It’s an awesome resource to use and learn from.

Another way to get some great personal development stuff would be to get on the lists of all the greats right now. Everyone is moving more Internet based, dudes like Tony Robbins, Randy Gage, and Robert Kiyosaki have all recently come online to expand their business and their networks to the masses.

You should just Google every single one of them and look them up, find their blogs, follow them, get on their lists, buy their books, and really just digest everything that they have to offer you because it all does have the potential to change your life if you take action upon what you learn.

    Hi Matt,

I totally agree with your perspective here. I just spoke with someone yesterday trying to help her, but she's so stuck in that negative poverty mindset, that she can't get past it. It is a huge stumbling block for most. It's so easy to skip the personal development, the important, to do all that we feel we have to do, the urgent. Thanks for the reminder.

  2. I totally agree. Some of the best books I've read are The Dream Giver (a marketer's must read), Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill's Laws of Success (Deep Business Philosophy) and now Harvey Mackay (Multi-Billionaire).

Turning your car into a personal development university is important too. I got so tired of the radio years ago and only listen to it sometimes depending on the mood. But CDs from Tony Robbins, Dr. Wayne Dyer, and Jeffrey Combs have take over.

Honestly, personal development is what keeps my mindset on the right path.

  3. Great post Matthew. I also spend time improving myself. The best time for me is in the car. No distractions. I listen to my ipod and think about ways to implement it for myself and my business.

Great insights Matthew…you know someone recently asked the question about who do you have in your phone contact list…how many millionaires are there? Most of the responses were zero so I got really curious and looked through mine. I don't need to share how many I found but it was quite a handful and it got me thinking about these same things you talk about in this post. I do agree that you create a certain energy for yourself when you actually want to grow as a human being. Almost everyone I know in this category becomes a leader in some area of life or another. I think it is because there really are so few people who actually want to engage in their own lives enough to grow into someone better than they are today.

    Thanks for sharing!
