Rebecca Black – Friday Music Video Marketing Secrets

Hey there guys,

If you’ve been online lately, you’ve probably seen the new Rebecca Black video by now. It’s been blowing up all around the net like CRAZY the past month. I couldn’t believe it myself when I saw it. Rebecca Black’s new music video has gotten over 50 million hits in just one month alone. That’s INSANE!

I think that could have broken some kind of YouTube record for the video to receive the most views in a month or something like that.

Now before I drop the embed code from the video into this blog post, I wanted to talk with you about how this kind of a video would get that many views that fast. And it’s more closely related than you thought.

You see, a video goes “Viral” like that when people start posting on their Facebook walls and Twitter accounts talking about how stupid or dumb it is. That’s basically what is happening right now with this video. People are “Hating” on this video so much every minute that it is making it get millions of views.

If you were to go to the live comments section in YouTube, you’ll see that there are about 5 new comments, every 10 seconds. It truly blew my mind. I’ve never seen anything blow up that fast and have that much interaction in real time before. I’m sure this video will be setting some records in the very near future, no matter how painful it is to watch.

Cause I mean be honest, this is NOT the best music video you’ve ever seen. But regardless, it still did one thing better than all the others. It got all the views. 50 million and counting to be exact.

And guess how it got them?

Via “Word Of Mouth” Marketing. Basically, people telling people, telling people about it. And in this particular case, it is because every one is talking shit on the video, thus making it a VERY hot topic.

This is actually extremely similar to a Network Marketing type business model, you know the ones, the so called “Pyramid Schemes”…

Fact is, Network Marketing is a brilliant business model that can make people very wealthy and this video is has just proved that word of mouth marketing, is yet again, the best type of promotion that you can possibly get.

When people really love, or in this case, hate something. It’s going to make it hella popular. No matter how horrible the piece of content is.

Anyways, I’ll finally let you watch the video. So you can see for yourself exactly how brutal it is.

    Rebeca is just too young to be exposed to the world!! This is why I don’t like YouTube so much. It draws a lot hateful people who don’t care about a 13 year old girl. Coming to think about it, I hate google for all the clean up they do on the search engines but allow Youtube to remain trashy. At least protect the young. How can they not tell that she just a little girl!

    Keith, I disagree entirely. I believe that new tools like YouTube let people see other people around the world for exactly who they are. I don’t believe in censorship either because at the end of the day, what censorship does is make people believe the world is all “fine and dandy” when in fact its more of a real, cutthroat reality that will tear you apart if you’re not ready for it.

    Take an extremely sheltered child for example, you can try to shelter them all you want. But the most you do, the more rebellious they become as they gradually get bigger and bigger doses of freedom. In the long run, censoring and sheltering people from what is really out there only harms their perception of how the world really is. Let’s stop sugar coating shit and get REAL.

    It’s time for the world to make big changes. Accepting porn, profanity, murder, and all kinds of other stuff is the first step to overcoming it. If we keep sweeping it under the rug (as a society) then it’s only going to keep accumulating until it overflows.

    Hey Matt,

    I agree. New tools like Youtube and other technology is great but still if it destroys the young…we have no future.

    I may not be able to change the world but I can darn sure protect my children with my own life from profanity and abuse . I will Guard them from porn or any other kinds of sexual abuses. I will love them with all my heart because they are my future. And this is not sugar coating my friend. It is called preparing them to live a good life. This is all I can say.

    Hey Keith,

    I totally got you. I didn’t mean we should expose our kids to the world from birth. It usually happens around adolescence. And when it does happen, I think its important to give them freedom with boundaries, if that makes any sense.

    Bottom line, kids will be kids and I think its important to let them learn from the real world versus stories and hypothetical situations.

    But nevertheless, its quite ironic how a music video on YouTube with a young girl, singing a silly song, sparked a discussion about peoples kids. #Interesting
